The first scientific meeting in India on Sleep research and Sleep medicine was organized by Dr V Mohan Kumar in New Delhi during September 1992. During this international conference the Indian Society for Sleep Research was founded.
 
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The purpose of the Society is exclusively scientific, academic and literary. For the furtherance of these aims and objectives of this Society shall be to:
  • foster research on all aspects of sleep and wakefulness;
  • provide a forum for the exchange of information pertaining to sleep research and sleep medicine, including holding of periodic scientific meetings;
  • promote education and training in sleep-wakefulness research;
  • establish and maintain standards of reporting and classifying data in the field of sleep-wakefulness research;
  • provide a common forum for interaction between the members working on different aspects of sleep research and sleep medicine.
